Personal Meditations
for Dealing with Depression

Read aloud slowly.
Repeat as needed.

See yourself for now as a positive being. See yourself having a shield of protection. See negativity bounce off of you.

Love is who you are at the deepest level. Peace and tranquility live deep within you. You are complete with divine love.

You soak up positive thoughts and emotions like a sponge. You are at peace with your thoughts and emotions. You find it easier and easier to maintain a positive awareness.

When negativity arises, stop. Take 3 deep breaths. Remember your shield of protection. Imagine love within as a candle burning in a sheltered place. Each time you do this, negativity flows away and dissolves in thin air.

When nervous tension arises, you do the same. 3 deep breaths. A positive shield. "Why must I fear what others fear? What nonsense!" (Chuang Tzu) Love is who you are, not merely what you do or say.

Your shield protects you. Divine love flows through you. You approach every circumstance with love. Any time you need to, you can take 3 breaths and re-center. You have the tools you need.

Recall the most peaceful scene you remember. Scan it with your mind's eye. Remember what made it peaceful, beautiful, soothing. Your mind fills with serenity.

Each positive feeling expands into your awareness on all levels.

You are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27). God's peace, God's blessedness, is at your heart and center. It may be unseen at times. It is never absent.

Nothing interferes with divine peace. God's peace absorbs, transforms any outer trouble.

I let myself relax into the arms of the Peaceful One like a tired child into its mother's arms. Peace flows through me. Eternal joy embraces me.

"Be still and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10) I become still, long enough to sense His presence. I feel the sweetness of Infinite love. I feel peace within, even when storms rage outside. I am at home in Your peace.

Flowing Niagara FallsI am abundant. By grace I move from scarcity to fullness. God's perfect image lives in my soul. His resources are enough to meet any need.

I surrender my old problems. I let the Mind of Christ work its way through Me. The Lord is my Shepherd: I lack nothing good. He restores my soul. He restores my heart. I fear no evil. I dwell in His house forever.

I remember what I have. What's lost fades away.

I count my blessings and they multiply.

I count my blessings and they multiply.

Allow yourself to drift and float. Let other sounds fade away into distance. Pay attention only to peaceful words.

It's good to be in this place.

It's good to be created in the image of God, as the Bible plainly teaches.

It's good to be God's child. It's good to be created by the loving Word, no less than the stars and planets.

Your presence here is right and good. God's loving work unfolds in you and around you. You don't have to control it all. You don't have to understand it all. He loves as He always does.

You find yourself at peace with yourself.

You don't need to inflict pain on yourself. Forgiveness wells up inside you. You let old wounds go. You forgive yourself. God gives you peace to forgive others.

You successfully overcome depression in this moment. You feel whole now. Even if those feelings return, they will not last. "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." (Psalm 30:5)

Golden Sunset You feel trouble melting away. It passes away like a cloud in the sky. It vanishes. You try to remember what it looked like, and find you've forgotten! You become more peaceful, more at home, stronger, each passing day.

You are alive in this moment, here and now. You move forward one breath at a time. Each breath itself is God's gift. (Genesis 2:7)

Our life is God's now, each moment of the present. Yesterday's troubles are just thoughts and memories. Today is a new day. Today is a fresh beginning. This moment is a world made new. Today matters. Yesterday is gone. It teaches its lessons. Our imagination blooms again today.

Yesterday, the sun sank behind the horizon as it always does. Today it rose again. Hardship may come, but it always goes. It isn't forever. You feel warm sunlight pouring through your soul's windows. A new day is here. A new opportunity!

Yesterday's trouble builds today's lesson. Yesterday's failure prepares today's success. Today we can hope and heal. Today we are part of something greater than ourselves, greater than yesterday, greater than troubles that came and went.

We embrace life as it is. Each experience, each moment, each breath leads us closer to One whose very nature is love. We learn from each event that happens. He leads us gently in triumph.

Each moment we flow toward:

We "think about such things." (Philippians 4:8)

From now on, you can say:

I let go of depression.
I maintain my balance.
I trust God to work for the good in all things.

I open my heart to love and hope.

I accept every day as a new opportunity for truth and beauty.

Huron SunsetI have the help I need. I have the hope I need.

Today is a NEW day!
Today is a world made new!
You've learned and grown!
You're still alive, still flowing forward!.

You feel the warmth, the love, the hope flowing through your heart!

You relax! You let go! You grow!

You trust there IS a loving plan for you! All experiences build toward it! You yourself flow toward it!

Problems lift off your shoulders. You breathe deep relief in your freedom!

A fresh beginning! Life made new! A new morning - beyond depression, beyond frustration, beyond failure!

You rejoice that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

(Galatians 5:22)
